New Rotary club in Wexford hosts open night to showcase volunteer work
Rotary clubs in Wexford and Gorey welcomed local communities to open nights to share Rotary’s purpose and mission. The central principle is “Service above self.” Rotarians volunteer time to organize local projects that promote peace, support education, and protect the environment, while also tackling local and global humanitarian issues. Gorey Rotary Club highlighted its establishment as the first Rotary club founded in Ireland in the last 20 years, now part of a network of clubs and members worldwide. Members described their work over the past twelve months through fireside chats and conversations, including a local hero recognition for Catríona Dixon for her courage, resilience, and dedication to helping others.
"The event was facilitated by Roisin Clancy and featured a number of fireside chats with Rotarians Roisin Clancy, Clodagh McCormiskey; Assistant District Governor and Garry Bradley, who shared what Rotary means to them. "Their honest and heartfelt insights gave attendees a deeper understanding of what being a Rotarian can truly mean.""
"Club President Grainne Kenneally Quirke highlighted the significance of the club's establishment, where it is the first Rotary club founded in Ireland in the last 20 years. "It is now one of 68 clubs across Ireland and part of a global network of more than 37,000 clubs and 1.4 million members worldwide," Grainne said."
"A Rotary club organises local projects to promote peace, support education and protect the environment. Members, known as Rotarians, volunteer their time to tackle local and global humanitarian issues."
"As part of the special opening night, Gorey Rotary club hosted a conversation with local woman Catríona Dixon, who Grainne said embodied the club's motto of service above self. "One of the most moving moments of the night was a fireside chat with Catríona, whose courage, resilience, and lifelong dedication to helping others made her the undeniable highlight of the evening," Grainne added."
