Public hospitals receiving funds from the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) must verify compliance with protocols for using this funding by next Monday. This request follows concerns about Children's Health Ireland (CHI) misusing funds to unfairly select patients for additional procedures. The NTPF has allocated €230 million for 2023 to support hospitals in decreasing waiting times or outsourcing to private facilities. The review process will ensure that public funds are not misused and that patients receive timely treatments without disruption.
It is important to stress that all pre-planned insourcing work has continued with CHI and the intention is that the temporary pause will be lifted as soon as the NTPF is satisfied with the assurances given by CHI in this review so as to minimise any disruption to children and their families.
The NTPF will fully reserve its position in relation to any proven misuse of public money and explore all options for restitution while ensuring public patients get the treatment they deserve.
