CATL, the world's leading battery manufacturer, showcased innovative battery technologies at a recent event in Shanghai. Notably, its Shenxing battery can now deliver approximately 323 miles of range with just five minutes of charging, eclipsing competitors in fast-charging capabilities. The battery charges at a maximum speed of 1.3 megawatts, even under cold conditions. Additionally, CATL revealed its sodium-ion battery, Naxtra, poised for commercialization, promising reliable performance in extreme conditions and positioning sodium as a potential alternative to lithium, offering enhanced safety and cost-effectiveness for electric vehicles and hybrids.
The first was an upgraded version of its Shenxing battery designed to add more range when fast charging. CATL said the battery can now offer 520 kilometers (323 miles) of range from just five minutes of charging time.
According to Bloomberg, the new cells are already ready for commercialization and have been tested in a number of extreme settings, including very cold and hot temperatures.
