Chrome can now autofill your passport, driver's license, and vehicle registration info | TechCrunch
"The addition expands Chrome's existing ability to automatically fill in your addresses, passwords, and payment information. Desktop users who have enhanced autofill enabled will see their passport and driver's license number, vehicle information - like their license plate or VIN - and more automatically filled in on webpages when they're prompted to enter them. Google says Chrome can now also better understand complex forms and varied formatting requirements, which will improve accuracy across the web."
"The tech giant notes that Chrome only saves autofill data when you give it permission to do so, and that the browser will protect this information through encryption. Additionally, before Chrome fills in saved information on your behalf, it will ask you to confirm. These new updates are available globally in all languages starting Monday. In the coming months, Chrome plans to add support for even more data types, the company says."
"Monday's announcement comes as Google has been adding additional functionality to Chrome to make it more helpful amid the surge of new AI browsers. A few weeks ago, Google rolled out Gemini in Chrome to all Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S. after previously limiting the capability to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers."
Chrome's autofill capability now includes passports, driver's licenses, vehicle registrations, and additional identity documents. Desktop users with enhanced autofill enabled will see those document fields automatically populated when prompted on webpages. Chrome has improved parsing of complex forms and varied formatting to increase autofill accuracy across the web. Autofill data is saved only with user permission and is protected through encryption. Chrome requests user confirmation before populating saved information. The updates are available globally in all languages, and support for additional data types will roll out in the coming months. Chrome is also receiving multiple AI-driven feature updates and usability improvements.
