Lexar's new SSD sticks to your iPhone and can survive nearly a 10-foot drop
"The ES5 is compatible with any USB-equipped device and delivers read and write speeds of up to 2000MB/s. It's quite a bit larger than Lexar's Professional Go Portable SSD that debuted over a year ago, but also twice as fast. It's also compatible with mobile devices like tablets and smartphones, but Lexar is targeting Apple users specifically with support for MagSafe, so you can stick the ES5 to the back of any iPhone model that supports MagSafe accessories."
"When connected to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, the ES5 unlocks 4K Apple ProRes recording at up to 60fps, or up to 120fps with the iPhone 16 and 17. When paired with the Galaxy S25, the drive is fast enough to capture Samsung Pro Video clips at up to 8K/30fps. The SSD also has an IP65 dust and water resistant rating so splashes are okay, but it won't survive a complete dunking."
Lexar's ES5 Magnetic Portable SSD ships in 1TB ($119.99) and 2TB ($199.99) models, with a 4TB version planned for Q1 2026. The drive connects to any USB-equipped device and delivers up to 2000MB/s read and write speeds. The ES5 is larger than Lexar's Professional Go Portable SSD but offers twice the speed. MagSafe compatibility allows attachment to supported iPhone models, and Lexar provides a metal ring for mounting on other devices or surfaces. The SSD enables high-resolution mobile recording (up to 4K ProRes 60fps on iPhone 15 Pro models and higher on newer iPhones), offers 8K capture with Galaxy S25, has an IP65 rating, and resists drops up to 3 meters.
