Sony raised PlayStation 5 retail prices in the US by $50 for the standard physical, digital, and Pro editions effective August 21. The physical PS5 increased from $499.99 to $549.99, the digital edition to $499.99 from $449.99, and the PS5 Pro to $749.99 from $699.99. PS5 accessory prices in the US remain unchanged. Prices in additional markets were not changed. Sony attributed the increase to a "challenging economic environment." Microsoft and Nintendo also raised console prices in the US after tariffs and shifting market conditions.

Prices of video game consoles have been rising since the Trump administration announced Tariffs in April. In May, Microsoft announced it was raising prices of its Xbox consoles and accessories, citing "market conditions and the rising cost of development". The company also said it would raise prices of some of its first-party games from $70 to $80 starting this Holiday season but later backtracked on the decision.
