Samsung plans to launch a trifold phone by the end of the year, although its final name is yet to be decided. TM Roh, the head of Samsung's Device Experience division, emphasized the importance of perfecting usability. An unnamed executive mentioned that the company has designed hardware for the trifold phone but is assessing the market demand and purpose for this new form factor. Previously, the trifold was teased at Samsung's January Unpacked event, with Huawei's Mate XT currently being the only competitor in the market.
"I expect we will be able to launch the trifold phone within this year," TM Roh, acting head of Samsung's Device Experience division, told The Korea Times.
"As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon," Roh said.
"We've had a trifold for some time, designed and everything. So it's not a new concept to us. What we're debating is the viability."
"What we're debating is the viability. When I say the viability, is there really a demand for this form factor?"
