Two classic 1980s gaming systems are being reimagined as modern handhelds. Both the Spectrum and Commodore 64 devices feature identical hardware specifications including 4.3-inch IPS displays, four remappable buttons, stereo speakers, headphone jacks, and USB-C charging with approximately three hours of battery life. Each handheld comes preloaded with 25 games and includes a microSD card slot for loading additional titles. The Spectrum features a clamshell design for screen protection, with a Collector's Edition available at $150 including a carrying case. Both devices launch October 15 with preorders currently open, priced at $130 standard editions.
"With a simple black design, four remappable function buttons, a headphone jack, stereo speakers, and a 4.3-inch IPS display, this handheld offers everything you need to relive the classics. You'll even find a USB-A port to connect a keyboard, and the custom UI lets you quickly save and load your progress."
"Battery life seems reasonable at around three hours on a full charge, and you can quickly get the device juiced up with the included USB-C cable. A Nintendo DS-like clamshell design should help keep the screen safe during transit--though if you preorder the Collector's Edition at FunStock ($150), you'll get a free carrying case along with a few other goodies."
"If you get tired of the 25 preloaded games, a microSD slot lets you upload your own games to the device."
