The game was initially praised for its platforming, exploration, and theme, including the well-known DK Rap opening. Over time, many players criticized tedious Kong-specific tasks, a clunky switching mechanic, and difficult minigames, with Beaver Bother singled out as a major frustration. Recent NSO additions include V-Tetris and Jack Bros. for Virtual Boy, plus Pac-Man and The Tower of Druaga for NES.
