Raducanu makes headway at Korea Open after skipping Billie Jean King Cup
"Super happy to have won today. It hasn't been easy, I feel like I've played this match the last three days. To have pulled through after waiting, I'm super pleased with how I came through. Jaqueline is a really tough opponent and had great results recently. Tough conditions, very slow, long rallies, long points, so happy to have gotten through."
"It was a disappointing day"
Emma Raducanu overcame multiple rain-related postponements to defeat Jaqueline Cristian 6-3, 6-4 in the Korea Open first round in a two-hour, two-minute match. Raducanu saved 11 of 12 break points in a first set that lasted 70 minutes and recovered from 3-1 down with five consecutive games. Cristian hit more winners, while Raducanu served six double faults but repeatedly fought back in the second set. The victory follows a straight-sets loss to Elena Rybakina at the US Open. Raducanu withdrew from Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup team to accept a Seoul wildcard and chase ranking points late in the season. Her next opponent is Barbora Krejcikova.
