Unofficial Animal Crossing Port Brings The OG Cozy Game To PC
"Github user FlyingMeta has released a (mostly) stable and working PC port of Animal Crossing on the GameCube that will let anyone with an original copy of the game or the OG Animal Crossing ROM play the full game at a higher resolution, with mod support and the ability to use either a keyboard or a controller."
"This new unofficial port doesn't contain any game files, hence why you need to provide your own ROM or copy of the game, and it was built off the work done by the Animal Crossing Decompilation fan project. Like other decomp projects, the idea behind ACDecomp is to pull apart the code of the original game and get it running on modern PC hardware."
"Because no game files, code, or assets are being shared online, Nintendo has been mostly unable to do anything to stop these decompiles from spreading. For example, we covered the Mario Kart decompilation project which has similarly managed to avoid legal action."
A GitHub user named FlyingMeta has released a functional PC port of the original GameCube Animal Crossing, allowing players with legitimate copies or ROMs to experience the classic game at higher resolutions with mod support and flexible input options including keyboards and controllers. The port supports existing HD texture packs created for the Dolphin emulator. Built on the Animal Crossing Decompilation project, which took over two years to complete, the port remains mostly stable despite minor audio, memory, and texture issues slated for future fixes. Since the port contains no game files or assets, it operates in a legal gray area similar to other Nintendo game decompilations like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time.
