A flight spent 10 minutes with no pilot when the first officer collapsed while the captain was in the bathroom
Briefly

In early 2024, a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Seville experienced a critical incident when the first officer lost consciousness while the captain was away. For approximately ten minutes, the flight was left unattended, leading to an emergency situation. The captain was unable to re-enter the cockpit, which prompted emergency protocols to be enacted. Once the first officer regained enough composure to open the door, he was treated by onboard medical personnel, and the flight was diverted to Madrid. Investigations revealed the first officer's incapacitation was due to a seizure disorder stemming from a neurological condition.
The Airbus A321 was flying from Frankfurt, Germany, to Seville, Spain, last February, when the first officer suddenly lost consciousness leaving the flight unattended.
After receiving no response, the captain used the emergency access code. Before the timer for this expired, the first officer was able to recover enough to open the door.
