Margot Friedlaender, a Holocaust survivor and advocate for reconciliation, died at 103 in Berlin. Born into a Jewish family, she was deported to Theresienstadt during the Holocaust and lost her entire family in Auschwitz. After emigrating to the U.S., she returned to Germany later in life, passionately sharing her experiences to educate younger generations about the Holocaust. Renowned for her efforts, she received honors and appreciation from German leaders, emphasizing the importance of remembering history and defending democracy. Her mantra, âBe human!â encapsulated her message throughout her life.
With her death Germany has lost one of the most important voices in its contemporary history, as stated by her foundation.
We cannot be grateful enough for Friedlaender's efforts, as highlighted by German President Steinmeier.
