Germany will not proceed with two planned flights for Afghan refugees this week amidst mounting political pressure from the conservative CDU/CSU coalition. This government has pledged to end the flights that have been ongoing since the Taliban regained control in 2021. A government spokesman announced that no further flights are anticipated in the coming weeks, with about 2,600 vulnerable Afghans still waiting for admission. Criticism has grown from the CDU/CSU towards the previous administration's refugee policies.
We don't want any more flights from Afghanistan to Germany. We want criminals and dangerous individuals flown back to Afghanistan," said senior CDU lawmaker Jens Spahn.
As things stand at present, no further flights are planned in the next two weeks," said German foreign ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer.
