"Consumer prices in Germany have risen by an annual average of 2.2% in 2025, unchanged from 2024, signaling stabilization after the post-pandemic surge. "The development of consumer prices has stabilized," said Ruth Brand, president of Federal Statistical Office. Destatis said inflation had been much higher in earlier years 5.9% in 2023, 6.9% in 2022, and 3.1% in 2021. The year-on-year rate eased to 1.8% in December 2025, the first time this year it dipped below 2%, and the lowest since 1.6% in September 2024."
"Core inflation excluding food and energy came in at 2.8% in 2025, down from 3.0% in 2024 and 5.1% in 2023, but still above headline inflation, underscoring persistent price pressure in other categories. Services led gains again, up 3.5% year on year. The steepest increases included combined passenger transport, social services, and insurance. Prices also climbed for healthcare services, vehicle maintenance and repairs, package holidays, and restaurants."
