Germany recalls ambassador to Georgia over anti-EU 'agitation'
"Georgia's leadership has for months been agitating against the EU, Germany and the German ambassador personally,"
"The foreign minister has therefore decided to recall ambassador Fischer for consultations to discuss further steps,"
"Germany objects to use of terms and comparison related to Nazi Germany that are historically, politically and morally wrong because they demean the victims and raise false implications,"
"Gobbelsian propaganda"
Germany recalled its ambassador to Georgia for consultations after accusing Georgia's leadership of prolonged agitation against the EU, Germany and the ambassador personally. The ambassador faced criticism from Georgian politicians for attending court hearings of opposition figures and was accused of interfering in Georgian politics. The ambassador condemned references to Nazi Germany as historically, politically and morally wrong and objected to language that demeans victims. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze labeled an OSCE statement "Gobbelsian propaganda" after the OSCE warned of a rapid deterioration in democratic and human rights conditions. Georgian Dream denies accusations of backsliding and says it is safeguarding stability while Brussels has effectively frozen the country’s EU accession bid.
