After 60 years, 82-year-old Audrey Backeberg, who disappeared in 1962 at age 20, was found alive and well out of state. The Sauk County Sheriffâs Office confirmed her case wasnât related to foul play, as she left by choice due to personal circumstances, including allegations against her husband. Backeberg was located thanks to a comprehensive review of cold case files, which included re-evaluating evidence and interviewing witnesses. This review led to the successful uncovering of her current situation.
The investigation concluded that Audrey Backeberg's disappearance was by her own design and not linked to any criminal actions or foul play.
Detective Isaac Hanson noted that a detailed review of case files, including re-interviews with witnesses, led to new insights that ultimately uncovered Backeberg's whereabouts.
