Germany: One in four immigrants doesn't want to stay DW 06/17/2025
Briefly

The German economy is showing signs of weakness, with a notable shortage of skilled workers in various sectors, including healthcare and IT, and more than 1.4 million vacancies. While the employment of immigrants is on the rise, particularly in the medical field where one in six doctors is foreign-born, many are contemplating leaving Germany. A recent IAB study reveals that 26% of foreign-born individuals have considered departing, highlighting a potential loss in essential workforce despite ongoing recruitment efforts among immigrants.
"Twenty-six percent, or around 2.6 million people, say that they actually considered leaving Germany last year, i.e., they thought about leaving the country," said Yuliya Kosyakova.
"Around 3%, or 300,000 people, already have concrete plans to leave," affirms Yuliya Kosyakova, pointing to the significant desire among immigrants to depart.
