In their preseason finale, the Golden State Valkyries came from behind to defeat the Phoenix Mercury 84-79 after a sluggish first half. Falling behind by 15 points in the third quarter, the Valkyries rallied fueled by a strong performance from their bench, particularly Migna Toure and Carla Leite. Notably, the team improved their three-point shooting from just 3 of 20 in the first half to 10 in the second, showcasing their resilience and teamwork ahead of the season opener against the Sparks.
We like to come off a little bit cold, Golden State coach Natalie Nakase said. I just have to figure out how to get them a little bit more warm in the beginning, but I want them to continue to let it fly.
I think today is an example of who we are, improving to the end and continuing to push. - Migna Toure
The Valkyries responded with a 11-0 run of their own to cut the Phoenix lead to three, capped off by a Leite 3 from the wing.
After shooting just 3 of 20 from the three-point line in the first half, the Valkyries made 10 3s in the final 20 minutes of play.
