The Golden State Valkyries face uncertainty regarding their fifth overall pick, Juste Jocyte, following the WNBA draft. General Manager Ohemaa Nyanin noted they hadn't yet spoken with Jocyte to clarify her status. Interestingly, although Jocyte was a notable international talent from Lithuania and had a solid track record in the Euro League, the decision to draft her raised eyebrows as many expected the team to select someone more immediately usable. Meanwhile, other draftees, Shyanne Sellers and Kaitlyn Chen, were introduced at a press conference, highlighting the contrasting trajectories of the newcomers with Jocyte's unclear status.
Although Jocyte was an intriguing prospect leading up to the draft, her selection by the Valkyries was somewhat surprising as experts predicted a player who could contribute immediately.
General manager Ohemaa Nyanin stated that they planned to discuss Jocyte's potential timeline for joining the roster but that discussion did not occur.
