Canva launches in Gemini, now in all four major AI assistants

Canva launched a Connected App for Google Gemini at Google I/O, completing integration across major AI assistants. Gemini users can generate, edit, and search Canva designs directly from a conversation. The rollout began with limited availability on 19 May and will expand in the following weeks. Prompts in Gemini produce editable design files rather than flat images. When a Canva Brand Kit is configured, outputs automatically apply stored logos, fonts, and color palettes. The integration also connects to Google’s Nano Banana image model, enabling image generation in Gemini and conversion into layered, movable elements through Magic Layers. Magic Layers separates AI image structure into individual components to support iterative changes without re-prompting.

"The pitch is straightforward. Type a prompt in Gemini, and Canva generates a design that arrives not as a flat image but as a fully editable file. If the user has a Canva Brand Kit configured, the output automatically applies stored logos, fonts, and colour palettes from the first prompt."

Users can generate an image through Gemini's native capabilities and then convert it into a layered, editable design using Canva's Magic Layers tool.
