Pinterest Alternative Cosmos Is Looking to Redefine Visual Inspiration for Creatives
"Creatives - designers, art directors, photographers - were saving references across Instagram, screenshots, camera rolls and Pinterest burner accounts. Everything was scattered, nothing had context and the tools available didn't reflect the standards of the people using them. And beyond that, there was a deeper cultural issue - images were circulating everywhere without credit, without context."
"In January, Cosmos completed its Series A funding of $15 million, co-led by Shine Capital and Matrix with participation from Google Ventures, Accel, Plug and Play and Anthony Casalena, founder and CEO of Squarespace. The seed round also raised $6 million from Google Ventures and Accel, for a total of $21 million raised."
Cosmos is a visual inspiration and discovery platform created by Andy McCune and Luca Marra in 2021 as a side project to address creatives' frustration with scattered visual references across multiple platforms. The platform officially launched in 2023 and gained significant traction, becoming one of Apple's 25 apps of 2025 and ranking number one in the design category across 28 countries. McCune, previously founder of Unfold (acquired by Squarespace), identified that designers, photographers, and art directors were saving references across Instagram, screenshots, and Pinterest without proper context or credit attribution. In January, Cosmos completed a Series A funding round of $15 million led by Shine Capital and Matrix, with participation from Google Ventures, Accel, and other investors, bringing total funding to $21 million.
