self-packing cheese: biodegradable packaging made of whey & waste decomposes on its own
Briefly

Ogilvy Colombia, in collaboration with Nestlé, has developed a prototype for biodegradable packaging called Self-Packing Cheese, made from recycled whey and cheese waste. By utilizing microorganisms in a lab to produce PHA, the design teams mix it with organic byproducts to create pellets, which are then processed into a biodegradable film. This innovative packaging can decompose in 300 days, significantly reducing plastic waste compared to conventional plastics which take around 900 years. The initiative promotes circular packaging and opens avenues for broader applications in sustainable product packaging.
