Outcrop, founded by Aran and Maeve Pudney in Sligo, produces precision-cut 3D maps from layers of custom-made, formaldehyde-free bamboo plywood and houses them in a round framing system inspired by Japanese magewappa craftsmanship. The studio offers 100+ mapped locations across Ireland, adding new areas regularly so customers can choose a meaningful “Local Spot” for a father figure. On its website, customers can pinpoint a place or Eircode with a solid brass pin and engrave a message on the back for an extra €20. Each map uses FSC-certified materials, non-toxic glue, and an Atlantic blue stain, and is fully biodegradable or compostable, assembled without nails or screws, and finished with a wooden clip. Outcrop received a European patent for the round wooden framing system, designed to ship flat, reduce storage and transport volume, and assemble without glues or nails using a small wooden connection inspired by a tusk tenon joint.
