Vizcom x Corkway Launch a 'Cork Design Challenge' With Winning Designs Getting Industrial Production - Yanko Design
Cork has long appeared in everyday objects such as wine stoppers, bulletin boards, yoga mats, and floor tiles. Designers are now focusing on cork’s engineering properties, including sound absorption, moisture repulsion, heat insulation, and the ability to compress without cracking. Cork also comes from a tree that absorbs more carbon than it releases. A Cork Design Challenge invites designers worldwide to reimagine cork for home interiors, public installations, and office environments. The brief covers wall coverings, ergonomic objects, acoustic installations, and sculptural décor. The top three designs are physically manufactured by CNC-milling cork blocks in Portugal and shipped to winners, with submissions open through June 8, 2026.
"What makes the challenge compelling is that the top three designs get physically manufactured, CNC-milled from cork blocks in Portugal, and shipped to the winners. Submissions are open through June 8, 2026."
