"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground."
"Working-age adults in England eat an average of 8.4g of salt per day, according to the analysis 40 per cent more than the government's recommended maximum of 6g. The difference between the amount of salt people are eating per day on average compared to the UK national guideline was found to be the same as six packets of ready-salted crisps."
Britons consume an average of 8.4g of salt per day, which is 40% higher than the UK government's recommended maximum of 6g. The weekly salt intake for many people is equivalent to the salt found in 155 packets of crisps. The daily excess compared to the national guideline is comparable to six packets of ready-salted crisps. Excess salt intake can cause high blood pressure, which is linked to half of all heart attacks and strokes. Analysis indicates that reducing average daily intake to the WHO limit of 5g by 2030 could prevent up to 135,000 new coronary heart disease cases over 14 years. The British Heart Foundation conducted the study.
