Trump visited Walter Reed Medical Center for a six-month checkup and met with service members and medical staff. A report said he did not stop to see 14 troops recently injured in the Iran war. A White House spokesperson declined to explain why the president did not meet with those wounded. The report noted that presidential visits to battle-wounded soldiers are customary. It also referenced past scrutiny of Trump’s remarks about wounded service members, including comments minimizing injuries from a 2020 Iranian airstrike. A CBS News investigation previously found soldiers with brain injuries were denied Purple Hearts. Sergeant Cory Hicks, injured in a drone attack that killed six and injured more than 20, described the difficulty of healing invisible wounds.
"Those currently convalescing at Walter Reed include Sergeant Cory Hicks, who was stationed in Kuwait when a drone attack at the start of the war killed six American soldiers and injured more than 20. CBS News reported that Hicks suffered a lacerated kidney, a severed spleen and a traumatic brain injury. I lost six of my battle buddies who were sitting pretty close to me and that's a struggle within itself, Hicks said in an April interview. The invisible wounds are hard to heal."
