""This is probably one of the largest silver treasures from the early Middle Ages that has been found in Sweden. We don't yet know exactly how many coins there are, but I think it could be upwards of twenty thousand," said Sofia Andersson, antiquarian at the County Administrative Board."
""Most of the objects are well preserved, but the copper cauldron in which they were found is unfortunately not as well preserved.""
""The finder acted completely correctly in contacting us,""
An unusually large and well-preserved silver hoard from the early Middle Ages was found near Stockholm, weighing about six kilograms and contained in a copper cauldron. The collection includes silver coins, beads, rings, and pendants. Most objects are well preserved, while the copper cauldron shows poorer preservation. Many coins date to the 12th century and several bear the Latin inscription KANUTUS, referring to King Knut Eriksson (1173–1195/6). The hoard contains rare bishop coins depicting a bishop with a crozier. Archaeologists are documenting and analyzing the find, and Sweden's National Heritage Board will decide on state redemption. Officials have withheld the exact find location until investigations conclude.
