In response to backlash over a recent 'Saturday Night Live' parody of her character from 'White Lotus,' Sarah Sherman emphasized her intentions were not to offend anyone. Sherman expressed regret that Aimee Lou Wood felt hurt by the portrayal. Wood had criticized the sketch as 'mean and unfunny' via social media. Sherman explained the complexities of comedic performance in a fast-paced cultural dialogue, noting the numerous roles and elements at play on SNL that can lead to misunderstandings.
I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad. Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset.
The show is in constant dialogue with culture as it's happening, and it happens really fast.
There are a lot of things out of your control... Staying vigilant but also being a part of the showâthat is your job.
Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago.
