Stephen King, with a storied 58-year career and 65 published works, has ventured into a new medium with his first animated feature, 'Lily.' This animated short, directed by Kate Siegel, tells the story of a young boy named Robert, who faces off against a cruel teacher and a tiger in a bathroom. The screenplay, adapted by King from his high school story 'Here There Be Tygers,' highlights King's ability to blend kid-friendly horror with his unique storytelling style, contributing to a nostalgic, visually appealing animation reminiscent of children's picture books.
"Last summer Stephen wrote our screenplay, adapting it himself from one of his earliest stories ever, Here There Be Tygers, which he actually wrote when he was in high school," Scalzitti explains.
"Deep cut fans of his short stories will notice he changed some of the plot... using instead the names from another of his darkest short stories, Suffer the Little Children. But the plot is all Tygers."
The hand-drawn animation makes Lily feel like it was pulled from a time capsule unblemished, and also makes it reminiscent of children's picture books.
