Marvel's 'Thunderbolts' features a thrilling scene where Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, saves his allies on a motorcycle. Stunt performer Joe Dryden provides insight into the meticulous planning behind the scene, revealing that they shot in Utah over three weeks, using a splinter unit to capture key moments. The collaborative atmosphere on set, with experienced team members like stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker and second unit director George Cottle, led to innovative adjustments that enhanced the filming experience and the final action sequence, showcasing the importance of teamwork in delivering high-octane entertainment.
The majority of my free ride work, we shot on a splinter unit...we would kind of break off and do some stuff in a smaller unit.
I went to Georgia first in February [2024]. I also went to Utah to scout...that’s a huge credit to Heidi to make sure that I was prepared.
And even Jake in the very beginning was so cool about just saying, 'Hey, look, if the boards aren't gonna work...let me know what it is.'
That little unit works super well together. It's calm, collected. Everybody knows what they're doing.
