Microsoft fixes the fixes that broke Windows tools

An upgrade bug caused error 0x8007007F on clients running Windows 11 v22H2 and v23H2, and on Windows Server 2019 and 2022. Microsoft resolved the issue without requiring manual action, and affected devices should now install the update successfully. Devices upgraded after August 15, 2025 should no longer encounter the error; retrying the upgrade typically resolves remaining cases. Upgrades to Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 were not affected. The Patch Tuesday release fixed 107 security vulnerabilities, including several critical issues across Windows, Exchange, SharePoint, and Exchange Server ESU policy.
Apart from affected clients running Windows 11 v23H2 and Windows 11 v22H2, the bug affected systems running Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2019.
"This issue was resolved as of August 15, 2025. Devices upgraded after this date should no longer encounter this error. If you do experience error '0x8007007F,' retrying the upgrade process will typically resolve the issue," it said.
The Patch Tuesday release was a hefty one, with Microsoft fixing 107 security vulnerabilities-including several critical issues spanning Windows, Exchange, and SharePoint, even Extended Security Updates (ESU) policy for Exchange Server users.
