Microsoft issued the August 2025 monthly Windows update, bundling security patches (including a zero-day), new features, and minor improvements. Multiple post-release bugs emerged, causing upgrade failures (later resolved) and reports of SSDs disappearing on recently updated systems. Microsoft acknowledged reports and said it was investigating with partners. A separate, serious flaw was identified that causes reset and recovery operations — including Reset my PC, Fix problems using Windows Update, and RemoteWipe CSP — to fail after installing KB5063875 on some Windows 10 and 11 client versions. The flaw does not affect server OSes or Windows 11 24H2 and prompted an out-of-band update.
"We're aware of these reports and are investigating with our partners."
"Microsoft has identified an issue where some attempts to reset or recover Windows devices might fail,"
