Was your London council among those hit by a cyber attack this week?
"We don't have all the answers yet, as the management of this incident is still ongoing. At this stage it is too early to say who did this, and why, but we are investigating to see if any data has been compromised - which is standard practice. Our IT teams worked through the night yesterday and a number of successful mitigations were put in place, and we remain vigilant should there be any further incidents or issues."
"Attackers will frequently use publicity around attacks to further target victims, so any correspondence around the incident should be treated with caution."
"possibility personal data may have been compromised"
"all the signs of a serious intrusion"
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea experienced a serious cyber intrusion that forced parts of its network to be shut down as a precaution. Internal notes say staff can use guest Wi‑Fi or mobile hotspots but core systems may remain offline for days. Investigations are underway to determine if any data was compromised, and the Information Commissioner's Office has been informed. Cybersecurity specialists and the National Cyber Security Centre are assisting, and business continuity and emergency plans were activated to maintain critical services. Officials have implemented mitigations, urged staff and residents to be cautious, and warned other councils to remain vigilant.
