'It hurts a lot' - Juan Ayuso reveals knee injury concerns but denies rivalry with teammate Isaac del Toro
Briefly

Juan Ayuso is currently dealing with pain from a knee injury sustained in a crash during stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia. Despite the competitive nature of the race, where teammate Isaac del Toro is pulling away, Ayuso’s priority is on managing his injury to prevent infection rather than on the standings. His stitches from the crash have reopened, causing increased pain and swelling, leading him to express hope for easier stages to aid recovery. UAE Team Emirates is taking extensive care to keep the injury clean and protected during the race.
The pain is from the crash during stage 9 to Siena. I had three stitches, but the problem is that during the time trial, the stitches opened.
The important thing is that the injury doesn't get infected. It's always better not to crash, but it happens, and you’ve got to be careful.
I hope these stages will be a bit easier and I can recover a bit more. But it's not ideal. It hurts more walking than on the bike.
UAE are trying to ensure it does not become infected from dirt or rain during the stages of the Corsa Rosa.
