Gheorghe Hagi has been appointed as the national team coach of Romania for the second time, following the death of Mircea Lucescu. Hagi, regarded as Romania's greatest soccer player, previously coached the national team briefly in 2001. He has experience coaching clubs in Romania and Turkey. Romania will not participate in the upcoming World Cup, having lost in the UEFA playoffs. Hagi aims to restore the national team to elite status in world football and has signed a contract through to the 2030 World Cup.
