Dodgers' Max Muncy Suffers Minor Setback Unrelated to Oblique Injury
Briefly

Max Muncy missed the Dodgers' series opener against the Diamondbacks due to congestion and cold symptoms while recovering from an oblique strain. The oblique strain began on Aug. 15 after Muncy had just returned from the injured list following a knee injury. The Dodgers hope the illness does not change a planned activation timeframe that currently targets next weekend against the Baltimore Orioles. Manager Dave Roberts said the illness 'pushes it back a little bit' but remains hopeful. Muncy will face high-velocity pitching from a machine on Sunday and will begin a short rehab assignment next week.
Muncy has been dealing with an oblique strain on his right side since Aug. 15. He had just returned from the IL less than two weeks prior from a knee injury before sustaining another injury. And now, the hope is that Muncy's illness doesn't affect his return timeline, which remains sometime next weekend when the Dodgers face the Baltimore Orioles.
"It pushes it back a little bit but I'm still holding out hope that Baltimore (next weekend) is still alive (for Muncy to be activated) but we'll see," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said to the Orange County Register. Muncy is scheduled to face high velocity pitching from a pitching machine on Sunday. He will also go on a short rehab assignment next week instead of rejoining the team for the series against the Diamondbacks.
