"He's swinging from both sides. He's running. Playing catch and all that stuff. So he's progressing nicely. Still obviously a ways away from playing in a game but it's been really good to see his progression."
"I think it all depends on how the progression goes along. I'm not putting that as a hard line in the sand. I am doing everything I can to be ready for Opening Day. But if it comes around to that time and my ankle is 90%, not quite where I need it to be, I'm going to do my best to be patient with it and get it back to 100%."
Tommy Edman underwent debridement surgery on his right ankle to address recurring issues from the past two seasons with the Cardinals and Dodgers. After being acquired by Los Angeles in a three-team trade, Edman delayed his 2024 debut until August and played only 97 games due to ankle complications that limited him primarily to second base. Currently progressing well in recovery, Edman has resumed batting practice from both sides and is running and playing catch. However, he will not participate in Cactus League games this spring. Edman emphasized he will not rush his return and prioritizes achieving full ankle health before Opening Day rather than forcing premature action.
