Savy King plays in 1st Angel City game since cardiac event
"I've been doing everything possible in my power to be on the pitch in a game again. I'm so excited to be back and to be in a position to return to the pitch. I think it's going to be such a big moment for not just me but my family, the club, really everyone that has experienced something really hard in their life, especially a cardiac event."
"During the summer of 2025, King graduated from cardiac rehab at Cedars Sinai and was cleared to return to Angel City's training facility for non-contact practice in the fall. This preseason, King was fully cleared for contact and returned to full practice with her Angel City teammates."
Savy King, a 21-year-old professional soccer player, made her return to competitive play after suffering a cardiac event during an NWSL match in May 2025 that required open heart surgery. She came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute of Angel City FC's season opener against Chicago Stars FC, receiving a standing ovation from the home crowd. King had undergone cardiac rehabilitation at Cedars Sinai during summer 2025 and was progressively cleared for non-contact and then full-contact practice. Beyond her athletic recovery, King established Savy King of Hearts, a nonprofit focused on CPR awareness and heart health advocacy. The Los Angeles native was drafted second overall in 2024 and had played over 600 minutes for Angel City before her cardiac event.
