Byron Scott, the former Los Angeles Lakers player, is being sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl during a team event in 1987. The lawsuit accuses him of sexual battery and false imprisonment, filed under a California law that allows older cases to be brought forth. Scott's attorney claims he believed the girl was of legal age. The incident took place in a janitor's closet during a Lakers visit to Campbell Hall High. Scott has publicly contested the lawsuit after a judge allowed his name to be disclosed.
Our client is devastated by this complaint. Our client believed the plaintiff to be over 18 and had no idea she would claim otherwise until 35 years later.
During a visit from the Lakers, the alleged victim was attending summer classes at Campbell Hall High in Los Angeles when she was sexually assaulted by Byron Scott in a locked janitor's closet.
