Girlalala, a 21-year-old Black transgender hairstylist and wig expert with more than 296,000 TikTok followers and over 44,000 Instagram followers, was shot to death Friday in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. She was in a car with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Shanoyd Whyte Jr., and the two had been arguing. Police took Whyte into custody at the scene and charged him with first-degree murder; he has been ordered held without bond. Her death occurred during Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance and prompted fundraising, including donations to cover funeral expenses.
