Ex-wife of bisexual AFL star speaks out after he comes out publicly
"What Mitch has done for the sport of football and hopefully Australian culture is maverick to the core. I for one couldn't be prouder of [him] and will celebrate his vulnerability loudly so hopefully those baby athletes currently playing in the AFL feel seen and safe and can be every little bit as weird... and so our kids can too."
"I have been overwhelmed by the kindness, encouragement and solidarity that has poured in from people across Australia and around the world,"
"Brown made history last month when he came out as bisexual, becoming the first Australian Football League (AFL) player, current or former, to do so."
Mitch Brown publicly came out as bisexual, making him the first current or former Australian Football League player to do so. Shae Bolton-Brown, his ex-wife and mother of his two children, posted a lengthy Instagram message expressing pride and support, recalling that they met as teenage professional athletes and spent over 16 years building a life and family together. She described shared weirdness and a sense that they were both "a little bit queer," praised Brown's cultural impact on football, and said she will celebrate his vulnerability to help young AFL athletes feel seen and safe. Brown thanked family, friends, fans and his partner Lou for widespread kindness and solidarity.
