Florida threatens to blast rainbow crosswalks away if city governments won't do it
Briefly

The Florida Department of Transportation warned Delray Beach to remove a rainbow crosswalk mural by September 3 or face removal by the state. Similar notices have been sent to Key West. Some larger cities like Miami Beach and Orlando have yet to be targeted. State Sen. Carlos Guillermo Smith believes the state will eventually challenge these cities. He argues that cities may have legal grounds to contest the state's actions concerning rainbow crosswalks, citing protections for colorful and artistic enhancements.
"As required by state law, if the pavement markings are not removed by September 3, 2025, the Florida Department of Transportation will remove them by any appropriate method necessary without further notice."
"I think they will go after it because they go after everything," said Florida state Sen. Carlos Guillermo Smith, underscoring the state's aggressive stance on rainbow crosswalks.
