Out gay footballer says he has 'retired' following a 'very serious injury'
""Unfortunately, I don't. The reason is simple," he began. "I suffered a very serious injury; I completely damaged the ligaments in my ankle. I was trying to overcome it, to get through the whole year," the 29-year-old said."
""I wanted to change this situation because we have just one family and I wanted to be close to my son in Prague, that's why I decided to move [to] Prague," he added."
"He said at the time that he wanted to live his life "in freedom, without fears, without prejudice, without violence, but with love"."
Jakub Jankto announced that he cannot continue his football career after completely damaging the ligaments in his ankle. He left Serie A club Cagliari Calcio when his two-year contract ended and had not appeared in 2024–25 competitions before the announcement on 21 August. Transfermarkt now lists him as retired; he had missed seven games last season with an ankle sprain. He returned to Prague to be near his son David, whom he shares with former partner Markéta Ottomanská, and thanked supporters. Jankto came out as gay in February 2023.
