Parents who once struggled to accept their trans kids share what changed their minds in new series - LGBTQ Nation
""Stories have the power to challenge assumptions, build bridges, and inspire change," said Sebold. "This series brings to life the deeply personal transformations that can happen when people are willing to listen, reflect, and open themselves up to love.""
""Not everything is just black and white. There's different ways of seeing things, that changing your mind is essential for you to grow.""
""embrace empathy and step into authenticity.""
PFLAG partnered with filmmaker Brooke Sebold to produce a five-episode short documentary series titled I Changed My Mind. Each film centers on a single personal story about parents confronting and reexamining understandings of LGBTQ+ identities. The films emphasize listening, reflection, and empathy as pathways to personal transformation and greater acceptance. The project aims to encourage people to embrace empathy and authenticity while bridging divides created by politicized anti-trans rhetoric. Ria's Story illustrates a mother moving from initial rejection of her trans son to reexamining her assumptions and her own sexuality.
