Kunst im Untergrund invites artists to explore public space through queer, intersectional and inclusive perspectives, transforming three U2 stations into an atlas of queer histories and futures. The program presents works at Nollendorfplatz, Bülowstraße and Schönehauser Allee under the title 'flexen, flirren, fantasieren - mapping the queer city.' Nadin Reschke presents 'Lila Fetzen ("Purple Scraps")' at U Schönehauser Allee, commemorating unrecognized East German womxn movements and searching for solidarity-based gestures of resistance through historical photographs and a collective performance on September 20th. Ipek Burçak's 'In Berlin Nichts Neues' at U-Bhf Bülowstraße engages post-migrant history via independent magazines, zines and anti-racist narratives.
This month, Nadin Reschke will show her piece 'Lila Fetzen ("Purple Scraps")' at U Schönhauser Allee, which commemorates the officially unrecognized East German womxn movements, especially the Lila Offensive, which was founded in Prenzlauer Berg in the late 1980s. It uses historical photographs as a starting point for a search for solidarity-based gestures of resistance and the visibility of contemporary queer life. In a collective performance on September 20th at 3pm, the womxn's resistance of the 1980s is updated against the backdrop of today's experiences.
Textile banners, costumes and speech acts bring the demands and potential of the 1980s into the present and ask: what can we take from these memories-the "lila Fetzen"-and reassemble to counter today's injustices? Based on the history of the Turkish Bazaar in the late 1980s, Ipek Burçak's contribution-titled 'In Berlin Nichts Neues (In Berlin Nothing New)'-at the U-Bhf Bülowstraße introduces visitors to the city's post-migrant history by creating new narratives with references to anti-fascist and anti-racist movements.
