"trans kids "deserve a safe, nuturing space" just like any other child."
""The Girlguiding UK's decision lacks both compassion and understanding of the very principles the organisation stands for," she said, arguing the move feels "out of touch" with the organisation's commitment towards inclusivity."
""Over the next few months, we will continue to explore the oppoertunities to champion this value and actively support young people who need us.""
Girlguiding amended its Equality and Diversity Policy to restrict Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers to children described as biologically female. The change followed the UK Supreme Court's judgement on the 2010 Equality Act and was said to result from "detailed considerations". The organisation had been trans-inclusive since 2017 and faced legal action from a parent claiming the trans policy exposed girls to harassment. Former members and supporters launched a petition that gained nearly 4,000 signatures in under 24 hours and described the change as a betrayal. A spokesperson said the organisation remains committed to inclusion and will explore opportunities to support marginalised young people. There have been no known cases of harassment by trans scouts or volunteers.
