'Unstoppable': Silicon Valley Pride marches on to celebrate 50 years, despite funding cuts
Briefly

Downtown San Jose served as the hub of LGBTQ+ celebration and inclusion during Labor Day weekend as Silicon Valley Pride celebrated its 50th anniversary. The parade and festival were downsized because sponsorships and funding dropped, resulting in about half the sponsorship levels of past years. The theme for 2025 was 'Unstoppable.' Community members emphasized freedom to love, diversity, and empowerment. Pride leadership linked funding shortfalls to national reductions in corporate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and noted political rollbacks affecting rights and gender-affirming care. Despite high temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, attendees expressed solidarity and determination.
Our theme was picked specifically because of how unstoppable our community is. We see the rollback of our rights, gender affirming care being stripped, we see marriage equality being challenged,
To me this weekend is about what makes San Jose strong, which is our diversity, embracing everybody for who they are, empowering our people to do their best, to be creative and innovative,
Our sponsorships were about 50% this year of what they had been in the past,
