"A South Dennis man was sentenced on Wednesday after threatening to murder a federal official and their family in March 2025, federal prosecutors said. Michael Mahoney, 64, was sentenced to two years of supervised release with three months of house arrest and must pay a $5000 fine, the office of the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, Leah Foley, said in a press release."
"During the call, Mahoney allegedly referenced the relative by their first name and began to scream expletives into the phone, claiming he was going to murder the relative and the relative's spouse, as well as the official, an FBI agent wrote in an affidavit filed in court. The relative hung up, and Mahoney called back again, but the relative did not answer. The initial call lasted 12 seconds, according to the affidavit."
Michael Mahoney, 64, was sentenced to two years of supervised release, three months of house arrest, and fined $5,000 following a March 28, 2025 phone incident. A relative of an unnamed federal official received a no-caller-ID call from a man claiming to be Mahoney. During the call, Mahoney reportedly used expletives, referenced the relative by first name, and threatened to murder the relative, their spouse, and the federal official. The relative hung up; Mahoney called back but did not reach them. Call records connected the calls to Mahoney, who was arrested in April 2025 and charged with transmitting interstate threats.
