Final $5 Mil. Default Judgment Favoring Jorge Masvidal Approved In Fanmio Lawsuit
"Per a report by MMA Fighting, Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez this week okayed a final default judgement after an arbitrator previously sided with the fighter. The amount comes to $5,315,268.64, plus post-judgment interest. Masvidal had agreed to a purse of six million, with an additional one million dollar win bonus (he ultimately lost the bout). However, in the months following the bout, the former UFC title challenger alleged he had only been paid one million, as well as an additional $150,000 advance."
"Diaz's lawsuit remains pending, though an arbitrator previously sided with him to the tune of six million U.S. Diaz was contractually obligated ten million total - nine of which was to show, plus an additional one million dollar win bonus. The rivalry between the pair dates back to their inaugural "BMF" title fight at UFC 244 in 2019, which Masvidal won via a doctor's stoppage TKO."
Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved a final default judgment awarding Jorge Masvidal $5,315,268.64, plus post-judgment interest, in his lawsuit against Fanmio and owner Solomon Engel. An arbitrator previously ruled in Masvidal's favor before the judge's approval. Masvidal had agreed to a $6,000,000 purse plus a $1,000,000 win bonus but alleged he received only $1,150,000 after the bout. Nate Diaz also alleged nonpayment and has a pending lawsuit; an arbitrator previously awarded Diaz $6,000,000 though he was contractually due $10,000,000. The matchup drew indifference from fans and the event underperformed. Masvidal will need to enforce the judgment to recover the award.
